Welcome to Contact Politics

Contact Politics is a unique kind of political website. Users, bloggers, those who submit audio to the podcast, e-mailers and poll takers determine the site’s direction. But Contact’s political media will always strive to be informative, truthful, interactive and engaging, as embodied by our podcast, blog, links, poll and e-mail blasts.

I can’t control what people write, but my ground rules for the Contact Politics Podcast, my personal blog entries and the Contact Politics e-mail blasts are: (1) stick to the facts, (2) correct factual errors, (3) never mislead, (4) be open about one’s opinion so as not to confuse opinion with fact, and (5) have fun with it.

My philosophy is that democracy works to the extent we see our interdependence, have equal value under law, and respect each other’s rights and freedom to the extent they don’t infringe on our own. When rights or freedoms conflict, the more essential should take precedence. That means life, civil and political rights, personal safety, health, shelter, education, property, and just about any freedom that doesn’t harm anyone else should be guaranteed to all…and roughly in that order.

I also think this should be fun because its hard to stay interested in anything that isn’t. Politics touches so many aspects of life and it’s far too important to ignore. In a democratic republic, it’s our job as citizens to stay interested and make changes where we see fit.

In a democracy, everyone counts by definition. And you can define your place in the political world whether as voter, volunteer, candidate, elected official, activist, blogger, journalist or “guy on the corner wearing tin-foil hat and holding large sign”. So enough with the dry “about us” stuff – make this about you, your loved ones, your country, your world. Make your impact. Make Contact.
