The Lesson
49% of people in Massachusetts who voted for President Obama, but did not vote for Martha Coakley think that Obama and the Democrats are not delivering enough on the change they promised America during the 2008 campaign. Only 37% said they were (part of this group apparently just doesn’t like the wooden, uninspired Coakley). That’s the lesson I was talking about last night. Timidity will be punished, aggressiveness will be rewarded.
Coakley’s pollster (Cellinda Lake) has said that these are still change voters as they were in 2008, but they’re not seeing change. They’re seeing gridlock and that’s the price of the filibuster. In other words, eliminate the filibuster, find a way to work around it, or welcome to a world where ignorant male nude models can take the most reliable of Democratic Senate seats.
