Down The Hill to The Street
Bipartisanship Alive & Well
Over 900 former government officials, including 70 former members of Congress are now united in their firm conviction that given last year’s financial meltdown after Wall Street firms recklessly over-extended themselves in the hopes of never-ending profits and after public tax money pulled their posteriors from the fire, Congress should forthrightly do…nothing. * (Unless further hundreds billions in bailouts and troubled asset purchases are necessary for investment bankers to maintain the standard of living to which they have become accustomed).
Elizabeth Warren’s recent interview on what needs to be done with regard to the financial services can be found here.
As lobbyists for the financial services industry, it’s time the media stop referring to officials turned lobbyists as “former Senator”, “former Majority Leader”, etc. unless they add “and current Wall Street lobbyist” to their titles. You don’t get to keep your “public servant” moniker unsullied if you start cashing in on that experience to perform a public disservice.
Many of them are names you know like Armey, Dole, Bayh, D’Amato, Hastert, Lott, and Breaux. Most are Republicans, but many are Democrats. Who says there’s no bipartisanship in Washington anymore?
